"Chronology of Chaos" by Skovol Unit (Rock Artist from Indiana(IN))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Skovol Unit with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Chronology of Chaos"

"Chronology of Chaos" by Skovol Unit is a huge 2 disc compilation and is the history of this punk/metal/electro band. It starts with 4 track demos and takes you chronologically through the life of the band, in a very interesting look at the progression of a band. This is some old school stuff with impressive guitar licks. They have a true garage punk sound and sensibility with wild rhythm changes, complex timing, and "in your face" lyrics. Early songs like "Equal Opportunity Destroyer" are examples of their loud mosh pit sound. Later songs like "Something Else" transition into melody and polished sound. There is also a cool home guitar called "Battle of the Wolf 359". If you like Iron Maiden and Descendents, you will like this one.

"La Cognizone del Superfluo" by Storming Weather (Alternative Artist from Italy)

RadioIndy is pleased to present Storming Weather with a GrIndie Award for their CD "La Cognizone del Superfluo"

"La Cognizone del Superfluo" by Storming Weather is a gripping rock album with dark undertones straight from Italy. The band has a thick sound, featuring bluesy guitar riffs and effective vocals that are sometimes weathered and sometimes melodic. The musicianship and recording quality of the CD are excellent. "Errori" has a nice "Epic" quality to it with soft verses that break into hard choruses. "Lo Show" opens with a killer guitar riff and moves forward into a fist pumping rocker with cool changes and a deep sound. "Killer Son" slows things down a bit, as the band shows you its dreamy, airy side. There are some cool changes and rhythms in this one too. If you like Nickelback and Grunge "In Italiano" you will enjoy this CD.

"Raised to the Ground" by Sky Rats (Alternative Artist from the United Kingdom)

RadioIndy is pleased to present Sky Rats with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Raised to the Ground"

"Raised to the Ground" by Sky Rats is a grit filled rock album with hints of ska here and there. It features Rob Thomas meets Dave Grohl type vocals, a tight rhythm section and catchy melodies. The songwriting provides relevant lyrics and memorable choruses. This is a radio-ready, totally professional CD, in terms of both the tight sound of this talented band, and the high quality production on the CD. Sky Rats' sound on this CD remind us of the "Mod" bands of the 80's and sound very American for a UK band. Highlights of this album are "Don't Look Now," a big rocker with a driving chorus - a definite pit starter. "Get it All" has a real catchy chorus and is more toward the "Mod" sound, as earlier mentioned. "Out of my Depth" pumps with a cool bass line and sinister vocals. If you like Foo Fighters and Mighty Mighty Bosstones you will enjoy this one.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Mark St. John with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Tight Turns in the Sunset"

"Tight Turns in the Sunset" by Mark St. John is an adult rock and alt-country crossover album complete with twang and lots of fun. Mark's voice is playful and raw, with a quality that reminds us of Mark Knopfler. The overall sound is "Old School" with clean yet gritty guitar riffs and a down home sound provided in part on some tracks by banjo. The songwriting makes effective use of repeating memorable melodic patterns that sometimes include a Lou Reed-type singing/talking style. You get more bang for your buck on this album with 17 tracks. The title track "Tight Turns in the Sunset" features some creative lyrics and fun "Woo Hoos." "The Girl She Looks So Fine" pays homage to Stevie Wonder's "Roller Coaster". "It Is What It Is" features banjo, dobro and a "Words to Live by" message. Pick this up if you enjoy alt-country or adult rock artists such as Lou Reed.

"Without a Sound" by Bless is an uplifting journey through a dark, ambient and melodic world. RadioIndy is pleased to present John Cammelot with  a GrIndie Award for their CD "The Best of Mr. Tune"

"The Best of Mr. Tune" is a refreshing collection of 80's rock tracks from a variety of John Cammelot's bands including Squadron, Flyer, and Mandel Machine. The bands are tight and the musicianship on the CD is tremendous, especially John's keyboard and piano work and the electric guitar work. John's vocals are very effective in this rock genre, and are filled on a number of tracks with rich harmonies. "Enjoy" is one of our favorite tracks, with its excellent hook and harmony-filled chorus. "Song On a Breeze' is an impressive instrumental number that features a very cool synthesizer intro into a beautiful piano piece that is filled with interesting synthesizer sounds. "Don't Let the Blues" effectively takes on a more bluesy, soulful tone, and shows the versatility of John's vocals. The musicianship on "Jive" blew us away. Any fan of 80s rock bands such as Styx or the Eagles should check out this collection from John's bands.
